why refills got expensive

01

The Brief

Few patients know their insurer may stop accepting financial assistance for prescriptions. Many learn about it mid-year, when thousands of dollars in refills suddenly come due. Disability Rights Oregon wanted a short video that gave this policy a human face. It also had to ask Oregonians to help change it.

02

Our Approach

The story follows one man and his dog through a year of refills. In winter, assistance covers his costs and all is well. By June the bills have piled up, and a chart reveals what the insurer is keeping. A family upstairs has the same problem with insulin. The narrator then makes the ask and directs viewers to find out more.
